Converting Units

Some maths worksheets to practise converting units from cm to m and m to cm.

Why can some children find this confusing?

Because metres are larger than centimetres, BUT to get from metres to centimetres you must multiply. So a child imagines centimetres as being smaller than a metre, but then they must multiply by 100 which feels bigger. It’s difficult to explain, so I hope you understand what I mean!
It helps to think in terms of ‘more than’ and ‘less than’. There are more cm so multiply because this will give you more.

Now you can practice converting from millimetres to metres.

Some maths worksheets to practise converting units from cm to m and m to mm.

Why can some children find this confusing?

Because it’s too much to do all at once. Simply break it down into two steps and it makes total sense. Have a look at the worksheets below.
