Many children struggle with writing sentences and stories. With this great game you’ll be able to help your child learn how to write sentences and have great fun at the same time.

Download this card game sheet, laminate if you need to and cut the individual cards out.

Sentence Game Cards

You will need:
Cards as above
Paper - preferably a long role but any will do.
2 different coloured pens/pencils, one for each player

How to play:
Explain that you have some really boring cards - that will build the interest, don’t show the cards.
Fan the cards in your hand for you child to choose 1 card
Lets say the card “The boy” is chosen
Write the 2 words on the paper with space in between so you can write other words if necessary.
Now take it in turns to add just one word at a time.
e.g. The sad boy
The sad lonely boy
The sad lonely boy from
The sad lonely boy from London... etc

Variations and tips
Use a 30 second sand timer to speed things up, miss a turn if you can’t think of a word
When the sentence is complete add up the words to score points
If your child gets stuck talk around the subject to get some ideas flowing

There are 2 starter cards to get going with if you get stuck -
“The haunted church” and “Chocolate ice-cream”.

Have fun!
